Robert Estrin is a performer with a passion for the piano. Aside from the many concert appearances as soloist and chamber musician, Estrin has a large collection of instruments from harpsichords to concert grand pianos. A visit to his home reveals instruments pre-dating the piano, as well as several Steinway, Baldwin and Mason & Hamlin pianos. Estrin provides pianos to numerous concert pianists, venues and music lovers from coast to coast. In his care, the instruments are refined by the top piano technicians in Southern California.
Living Piano: Journey Through Time (www.LivingPiano.com) is a live show in which Estrin brings vintage harpsichords and fortepianos to the stage. In period costumes, Estrin highlights the development of the piano through the ages with music and commentary.
Estrin had his formative piano training with his father, Morton Estrin, who in his 80’s is still performing and teaching the piano. Estrin’s extended family includes many musicians, including his wife, Florence and his two children, Jennifer and David.
Some other interesting musical achievements, Estrin is an accomplished French hornist and composer. As a former owner of a commercial recording studio, Estrin continues producing music in his private home recording studio.
Estrin's music education includes three diplomas from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, scholarship studies at the Manhattan School of Music as well as a degree in piano performance from Indiana University. Estrin's teachers have included John Ogden, Ruth Slenczynska, Constance Keene, James Tocco and Phillip Farkas.
