Robert Estrin is a performer with a passion for the piano. Aside from the many concert appearances as soloist and chamber musician, Estrin has a large collection of instruments from harpsichords to concert grand pianos. A visit to his home reveals keyboard instruments pre-dating the piano, as well as several Steinway, Baldwin, Mason & Hamlin and other hand-made pianos. Estrin provides concert level pianos to numerous pianists, art centers, schools and students from coast to coast and around the world. In his care, the instruments are refined by the top piano technicians on the West Coast.

Living Piano: Journey Through Time www.LivingPiano.com is a live show in which Estrin brings vintage harpsichords and fortepianos to the stage. In period costumes, Estrin highlights the development of the piano through the ages with music and commentary. He has performed Living Piano for Colleges, Universities and public schools, art centers, conventions and with Symphony Orchestras. Living Piano is also offered as a fund-raising event for school music programs and other worthy causes.

Estrin had his formative piano training with his father, Morton Estrin. www.MortonEstrin.com, who also taught his sister Coren Estrin-Mino who is an accomplished pianist as well. His father’s students cover a broad range of concert pianists, conductors and personalities including Billy Joel. Estrin’s extended family includes many musicians, including his wife, Florence and their two children, Jennifer and David.

Estrin is an accomplished French hornist and composer. He also is experienced in the recording arts as producer and engineer. He has worked as music content developer for software companies and presented music technology performances on state of the art synthesizers.

Estrin's music education includes three diplomas from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, scholarship studies at the Manhattan School of Music as well as a degree in piano performance from Indiana University. Estrin's teachers have included John Ogden, Ruth Slenczynska, Constance Keene, James Tocco and Phillip Farkas.

Living Piano: Journey Through Time is truly an Historic Concert Experience. Robert Estrin brings vintage instruments from his personal collection to the concert stage offering audiences the opportunity to hear keyboards ranging from the 1700’s to the modern piano in one whirlwind performance. In period costumes, the music comes to life while Estrin clarifies how these instruments were utilized and how the technologies affected the music and performance practices. You will have an opportunity to play the instruments and ask questions in this lively presentation.
